Wrong-way Collision on CA Freeway Kills Five, Including Three Youths

Five people, including three juveniles, were killed early Thursday morning when a wrong-way driver collided with another vehicle on state Highway 4, the California Highway Patrol said.
The wreck happened about 12:10 a.m., according to the CHP. All five people were declared dead at the scene. Their identities were not immediately released pending confirmation and notification of next of kin..
According to CHP Ofc. Adam Lane, a Hyundai was driving east on Highway 4 in the westbound lanes. It crashed into a Ford SUV just west of Loveridge Road, he said.
The Hyundai had all three juveniles in it, along with a driver, Lane said. The Ford SUV had only the driver inside, with no passengers.
The CHP diverted all westbound traffic off of Highway 4 at Loveridge Road until 3:30 a.m. The CHP then opened two lanes until about 4 a.m., when they opened the remaining three and ended a Sig Alert for severe traffic.
More details on the wreck were expected from the CHP later Thursday. Authorities did not immediately say if they believed alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
